NICE

NICE has been asked to produce guidance on 'school, college and community-based personal, social and health education focusing on sex and relationships and alcohol education.' In response to previous consultations NICE changed their view and the final scope now states that children in education other than at school, including home education and pupil referral units will be included in the scope of the guidance -

AHEd has written to the project co-ordinator to be included in future consultation to be carried out in 2008 and 2009. The final guidance will be published in September 2009

AHEd Letter:

January 21st 2008

Dear Mr Travis,

We note that in the draft scope, issued on 14 September 2007, NICE stated that 'children and young people who are educated at home' would NOT be covered by the guidance. However, in response to submissions from several bodies the final scope now states that children in 'education other than at school, including home education and pupil referral units' WILL be included in the scope of the guidance -

http://www.nice.org.uk/nicemedia/pdf/PSHEFinalScope.pdf (para 4.1.1).

As a consequence of this, AHEd members would like confirmation that our group will be included as a stakeholder in all consultations on this matter as a home education group. We would like to be kept informed and involved in consultation at the following email address: ahed@ahed.org.uk

Please confirm that this will be the case at your earliest convenience.
